International students cannot simply choose to work in any role or any field they desire. They need to be strategic.
Due to the fact that US employers will have to sponsor international students in the future, applying for jobs as a generalist or for a non-technical role will not work in their favor. Besides, as an international student, to become eligible for their OPT, they also need to choose to work in a role that is aligned with their academic degree.
This course will help international students define their career goal that helps increase their chances of getting job interviews and eventually getting hired.
It can be extremely intimidating to network and be interviewed. It can be even more intimidating when you have language and cultural barriers.
From a survey asking over 100 international students
“Do you feel at ease and confident during a job interview in the U.S?”
only 10% of the students said that “they feel very comfortable about it.”
The job interview is one of the most intimidating recruitment processes for international students.
This course will present techniques to approach job interviews strategically and help international students position themselves as business problem solvers.
I launched a survey among over 100 international students across the US asking
“Do you have a mentor in the U.S.?”
10% of the students said that “they don’t know what a mentor is.”
75% of them said that “they do not have a mentor in the US.”,
and only 22% said that “they have a meaningful relationship with their mentor(s).”
Finding mentors will give opportunities to students to improve essential skills and tap into a hidden job market. Unfortunately, not so many international students know how to do that.
This course will help international students change the way they think about networking and shift their mindset from thinking of networking as intimidating to something attainable and inspiring. They will also learn ways to build trust and engagement with professionals and turn them into their career advocates.
