Lauren often finds herself surrounded by international students as she works closely with the department chair of the UAlbany College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering, specifically in Computer Science. Her job is to support students and faculty alike. She has worked closely with international students and wanted to offer them the support and guidance they deserve.
Lauren has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the College of Saint Rose and is currently pursuing an MBA from the University of Albany.
Lauren has recently joined iCEP, where she was able to expand her skills in cultural awareness and deepen her knowledge of how to better support her students.
What inspired you to join the iCEP Academy, and how do you hope it will shape your work with international students?
“My work with a large population of international students within the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering has shown me how transformative cross-cultural support can be in helping students feel connected and empowered. I’m deeply committed to creating spaces where students from all backgrounds can thrive.”
How has the iCEP experience so far inspired you or reinforced your passion for supporting international students?
“ My experience in iCEP so far has genuinely reinforced my passion for supporting international students. The program has expanded my knowledge, deepened my cultural awareness, and strengthened my skills I use every day in my work with students. Exploring new perspectives through the program’s readings and modules has highlighted just how important intentional, cross-cultural support truly is. Even in a virtual format, the content has pushed me to think more critically and creatively about how I show up for international students. This experience continues to inspire me to advocate more effectively, develop more inclusive practices, and ensure that international students feel understood, welcomed, and empowered to succeed.
What advice would you give to others thinking about joining the iCEP Academy?
“For anyone thinking about joining the iCEP Academy, my advice is to go for it. Each module provides valuable perspectives and tools that directly enhance your work with international students. It’s an investment in both your professional growth and the student experience.”
Lauren’s unwavering commitment to her students just goes to show how much of an impact one can have on another person’s life. Especially in the case of international students, Lauren is helping them feel more empowered on their educational journeys.
