"I landed my dream job at one of
the world's leading financial groups
"I feel so blessed to have had Kwan's support along my job hunting journey.
Kwan's professional knowledge in career coaching is extraordinary.
More than the best career coach one can wish for."
Q) What were your key challenges of getting a job offer before meeting Kwan?
My key challenge was that I did not know how to find my pitch and selling points
to distinguish myself from other candidates. The financial services industry in NYC is
extremely competitive. I interviewed with some top banks but I realized that my interview
stories were not compelling enough to make me stand out as the right fit for the employers
during an interview.
Q) Describe a situation when you had a "light bulb" learning moment from Kwan?
There were many light bulb moments throughout my sessions with Kwan. I personally had a very diverse background- I went from Liberal Arts studies to a technical degree program, and had pursued studies in four different institutions in four different countries. My struggle was how I would justify my personal stories in my professional development path. Kwan had my back: she tied my stories perfectly into the skills that the employers were looking for: communication skills, analytical skills, logical thinking skills, etc. All these skills that I have developed over the years could be well presented into tangible achievements, and these are even more convincing through the story telling.
Q) What has been your most significant improvement?
My most significant improvement is my ability to go to employers and present myself more confidently. The mock interviews carefully prepared by Kwan were enormous help before I went into an interview. Some of the mock interview questions even got asked during the interviews. All of the prep made me more confident to answer any unexpected questions that were thrown at me.
Q) What is your message to international job seekers who haven't received any job offers and feel discouraged?
As international job seekers who intends to pursue a career in the U.S., we are confronted with many constraints and obstacles. However, that should never hold us back. That means that we need to work harder and be even more courageous. We need to be confident, put ourselves out there and try our best. Be ambitious, be bold, be persistent, and have faith that you will ace your dream job. "When there is a will, there is a way." I wish you all success and luck in getting your dream job.
